Where to Elope in Banff: A Guide to Iconic + Secluded Locations

Banff is otherworldly. No matter how many times I’ve been, I’m always blown away by its beauty. From its towering peaks, alpine lakes, and wildflower meadows, it’s one of Canada’s top elopement destinations.

As someone who lives near Banff, and has been there countless times, I have become well acquainted with the trails, lookouts, and hidden gems.

This is my guide to Banff’s iconic and secluded elopement spots. Find out what my go to locations are for eloping in this beautiful area. Feel free to reach out and I can help you start planning your dream elopement in Banff.

1. Moraine Lake

You’ve probably seen Moraine Lake in every instagram, tiktok, or blog post. It is the crown jewel of Banff, and is truly an incredible sight to see. At sunrise, the peaks light up pink and gold, and the lake glows impossibly blue.

Best for: sunrise ceremonies, dramatic views, big “wow” photos
Pro Tips:

  • Access is limited; shuttles or private transportation required
  • Sunrise is the only time to avoid crowds
  • Bring warm layers—mornings here are cold, even in summer

2. Lake Louise

Lake Louise is a perfect elopement spot without hiking. Their are some hiking trails that due offer more private ceremony spots.

Best spots: the lakeshore path, canoe dock, Fairview Lookout, little beehive

3. Two Jack Lake

Two Jack Lake is often overlooked, but offers calm waters, pine forests, and fewer people. In no way does this mean two jacks isn’t beautiful in itself, it’s just less known.
Why it works well: open areas for ceremony setups, great at golden hour, easy parking

4. Lake Minnewanka

A huge glacier lake with bold cliffs and deep blue water. Their is room to explore the lake while getting epic photos. Plus I think wether the lake is calm or windy, the vibe is very dramatic and bold (think of cover of a magazine photos).
Best for: sunset ceremonies, windy moody shots, private coves away from the crowds

5. Bow Lake

This lake might just be one of my favourites. There’s room to move around and explore, but the mountains are still close, and with the lake right there you kinda feel wrapped up and makes for a more intimate vibe.

Why it works well: open areas for ceremony, short walk, towering peaks

6. Sunshine Meadows

Accessible by gondola and shuttle, Sunshine Meadows offers summer wildflowers, rolling alpine hills, and insane 360° views. If your wanting your vows to be said in a wildflower meadow, instead of towering peaks, this is the place to go.
Pro Tip:

  • Only available: late June–early September

7. Peyto Lake Upper Viewpoint

Peyto is a must see when visiting banff, and is a perfect location for a less tourist elopement spot. The turquoise lake, a glacier to your left, and mountains surrounding you makes for an epic “I do,” point.
Why it’s perfect: quiet early in the morning, epic turquoise water, easy access
