2026 Banff Elopement Activities You Need to Know About

You deserve more than just a quick vow ceremony on your elopement day. This day should be one of the best days of your life, so maker it epic with a fun activity that day! If the thought of pulling off everything you want to do seems stressful, fill out my inquiry form and I’ll do all the heavy lifting to make this a stress-free process for you.

These are some Banff elopement activities I recommend to my couples to turn their elopement day into a once in a lifetime experience they wont forget.

Summer Elopement Activities

Summertime is one of the best times to visit Banff.. but not always the most ideal for couples wanting to avoid crowds. On the up side all the trails, gondola’s, and lakes should be open. Here are 4 things in summer you could do.

Swim, Paddle Board, or Kayak

Banff has 2 out of the top 10 lakes in the WORLD! Imagine not only eloping, but getting to say you also got to swim on of those lakes? I’m not gonna lie to you, glacier lakes are as cold as it gets, so paddle boarding or kayaking is totally a doable way to experience the lakes without getting wet.

Sunrise at Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is only accessible for a few of the warmer months out of the year. And with the park rules, to access the lake you need to book a shuttle or bus. However if you want just an incredible wedding photo at one of the most well known lake in the world, I would consider this an option. Going at Sunrise will allow you to avoid the crazy peak of tourists throughout the day. Also, imagine getting to start your wedding day snuggled up in a blanket sipping coffee as you get to watch the sunrise over the peaks?

Hike

No matter your hiking experience, Banff has a lot of different trail intensities to chose from. The saying goes, “the view from up top is always better,” and it’s true. Plus, if you’ve ever hiked you know that whatever you eat after hiking to the top tastes 10 times better, so why not open a beer, pop some champagne, or even enjoy a sweet treat on top of the mountain to celebrate.

Gondola Ride

Banff has 3 different Gondola’s you could chose from. One of my favourites in summer is the Sunshine Valley gondola. Think rolling hills, greenery, and a view you can see for miles. If your wanting a laid back elopement day with some adventure this would be right up your alley.

Fall Elopement Activities

See the Golden Trees

Banff has a dense concentration of larch trees, and in the fall the needles turn golden. You’ll probably never get to experience something like this again so take advantage of it when you can.

Coffee Break

Imagine walking along a quiet trail on your elopement day, the sun is casting golden rays through the tress as it sets. You find a little spot with a view of the lake and you set down you blanket, grab your mugs, poor a nice cup of coffee and snuggle up while you take in the moment.

Hot Springs

What better way to unwind from your elopement day then relaxing in Banff’s Hot Springs? Not a fan of being there with 50 other strangers? No worries. Choose an Airbnb that has a hot tub so it’s just the two of you.

Johnston Canyon

If you like waterfalls and are up for a mild hike, Johnston Canyon will not disappoint. I recommend seeing both waterfalls in fall because it’s a lot more quieter this time of year.

Winter Elopement Activities

Dog Sledding

No better way to emerse yourself in Canadian culture than to experience dog sledding. If you love animals and want to see the magical winter forest this would be a really fun way to do it.

Skating

A fun way to enjoy part of your elopement day. You guys could skate around the lake, take in the views, and then enjoy a nice cup of hot cocoa afterwards.

Snowmobiling

If you are wanting some adventure on your elopement day snowmobiling would be a fun way to do it. Not only is it really fun, but the views you get to see wouldn’t be accessible without being on the back of a snowmobile.

Visit the Ice Castle

Depending on when you Elope in winter, Banff builds a ice castle on Lake Louise every year. Not only that, but people come from all over and sculpt huge designs out of snow and ice.

Spring Elopement Activities

Helicopter Tour

No better way to see the mountain ranges from a whole new angle. Not only that, but the helicopter tours stop at one of the mountains where you can explore, take photos, or even say your vows on top of the mountain.

4×4 or Quading

If you are more of an adrenaline junky and don’t mind getting a little muddy, why not rip around on a 4×4. If you did a multi day elopement and wanted to wear your dress it would be such a fun way to “trash” the dress by getting down and muddy. I usually recommend this in spring since it’s rainy season and you could find some good muddy spots.

Tattoo

How cool would it be to go to one of Banff’s tattoo shops and get matching tattoo’s on your elopement day. It could be something simple like a mountain, the date, or even the coordinates. Not only could we document the experience, but get a pretty cool picture of you guys showing them off at your ceremony spot.

Banff Gondola

I know I already mentioned Gondola’s but this one is specifically for the Banff Gondola. This one is insane because it actually has a restaurant on top of the mountain with windows covering the whole thing for an incredible view of the mountains where you enjoy a meal. Very romantic, stunning views, and incredible food.

What Activity to Choose

No matter when you decide to elope in Banff, there is a lot you can do. If your wanting suggestions more tailored to you personally, fill out an inquiry form and I’d love to help plan your elopement day tailored to you.
